CIS Holiday Hoops start this Monday

While the quantity of games to be played between CIS teams over the Holidays has dwindled in recent years, there remain several quality games on the schedule over the next week or so.  The two staple, 8 team events on the Holiday calendar lead the way with the 49th Annual Wesmen Classic in Winnipeg (starts on Monday) and 26th Annual Rod and Joan Shoveller Memorial tournament (begins New Year’s Day Friday).  As well, Laval Rouge et Or has moved their pre-season tournament to a Holiday event in Ste. Foy.  Here is a look at the schedule through mid-next week:

Monday, December 28th (all times Eastern)

1:00 PM  Brandon vs. Lakehead (49th Wesmen Classic first round)

1:30 PM  UNB vs. #7 Calgary (Laval Tournament)

3:00 PM  MacEwan vs. Acadia (49th Wesmen Classic first round)

5:30 PM  #2 Ottawa at Laval (Laval Tournament)

7:oo PM  Northern Alberta Institute of Tech (NAIT) at Winnipeg (49th Wesmen Classic first round)

9:00 PM  Manitoba vs. #9 Lethbridge (49th Wesmen Classic first round)

Tuesday, December 29th (all times Eastern)

1:00 PM  Loser Brandon/Lakehead vs Loser MacEwan/Acadia (49th Wesmen Classic consolation)

1:30 PM  #2 Ottawa vs. #7 Calgary (Laval Tournament)

3:00 PM  Loser Winnipeg/NAIT vs. Loser Manitoba/Lethbridge (49th Wesmen Classic consolation)

5:00 PM  Simon Fraser at Victoria

5:30 PM  UNB at Laval (Laval Tournament)

7:oo PM  Winner Winnipeg/NAIT vs. Winner Manitoba/Lethbridge (49th Wesmen Classic championship semi-final)

9:00 PM  Winner Brandon/Lakehead vs. Winner MacEwan/Acadia (49th Wesmen Classic championship semi-final).

We are still trying to get word as to whether or not Laval tournament will have webcasts for their games, the most interesting of which is clearly #2 Ottawa vs. #7 Calgary on Tuesday at 1:30 PM ET.

Note also that Acadia will be participating in two tournaments over the Holidays:  Wesmen Classic with games Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday quickly followed up with 3 games at the Shoveller beginning on Friday.

In all, only 19 of the 47 CIS teams will play games against other CIS opponents over the break (including UVic hosting UBC-O for an exhibition game in Victoria on Thursday).
