According to well-placed sources, 6’6″ forward Jean Pierre-Charles will be transferring to uOttawa to play for the Gee-Gees beginning in 2016-17. Pierre-Charles played his first three seasons at Carleton and was one of the more pleasant surprises at this past March’s Nationals, becoming a presence inside as the Ravens collected their 11th CIS national championship in the past 13 seasons.
Pierre-Charles, a graduate of Ashbury College in Ottawa, will join a formidable front court for the Gee-Gees that includes McMaster transfer Nathan McCarthy and ex-Raven Brody Maracle. Pierre-Charles played the post exclusively at Carleton and was developing into a high-end four man at both ends. Given the stable of bigs now at his disposal, it will be interesting to see if Coach James Derouin tries to use Pierre-Charles at the “3” spot to try to take advantage of what some think are solid perimeter skills and athleticism.
This is another potentially-impactful get for Ottawa – the Gee-Gees may not be done yet with impact transfers – and is likely to continue to heat up the cross-town rivalry between the two rival schools that continues Saturday, January 16th at the Raven’s Nest and then Friday, February 5th at the MBNA Capital Hoops Classic at the Canadian Tire Center in Ottawa.
