Clerjuste rescues Citadins

6’3″ wing Greishe Clerjuste had 14 of his game and career-high 30 points in the fourth quarter, including 3 3’s as UQAM pulled away late to sweep the weekend series against Bishop’s, winning 83-72 in Lennoxville.  Newcomer Julien Girard was also instrumental in the victory with 8 of his 9 points in the final frame including a pair of 3’s.

In what was a one-point game with just 4 minutes remaining, a couple of now-familiar issues bit the Gaiters as Bishop’s made just 5 for 9 free throws down the stretch – part of a 15 for 29 effort overall from the stripe.  As well, Bishop’s made just one of their final 6 shots of the night including 0-3 from 3 to sink to 1-5 on the RSEQ regular season.

Clerjuste finished with 5-6 effort from downtown and added 8 rebounds as the Citadins finished a blistering 9 for 16 from downtown – making 6 of their threes in the decisive fourth quarter.  Point guard Kewyn Blain had 19 points and 12 rebounds to help UQAM.

Jon Bermillo had 20 to lead Bishop’s (5 for 15 from 3) while fellow freshmen Nick Harvey (18 points, 9 rebounds) and Abdul Kamane (12 & 12) also were instrumental in keeping the Gaiters close.

Bishop’s welcomed back 6’3″ Peter Weston, who missed Thursday’s loss in Montreal but were without regular starter 6’5″ David Belanger, who injured his hand/finger/wrist early in Thursday’s game.

RSEQ Standings:

McGill 4-0

UQAM 4-2

Laval 3-3

Concordia 2-4

Bishop’s 1-5

Next Weekend home-and-home:  McGill/Laval; UQAM/Concordia.
