Two games on tap tonight in the CIS beginning at 7 PM ET/8 PM AT when the latest edition of the Battle of Halifax takes place as Saint Mary’s, looking to firm up their spot in the AUS playoffs, hosts Dalhousie, currently in top spot in the standings. Tigers are actually tied with UPEI Panthers each with 34 points and this is Dal’s game-in-hand. The two top teams in the conference meet at DalPlex on Saturday night. Huskies, only a couple of weeks ago in a position to not make the playoffs, can now vault into 4th spot ahead of Acadia with a victory tonight in what is a 4 point game. This will be the 6th ! meeting of the season between the 2 rivals including non-conference games at X Invitational and Shoveller Memorial – both won by Dal – but Saint Mary’s has a 2-1 lead in the regular season series including the first game of calendar 2016 when Huskies blasted Dal which was playing that night without 6’2″ Kash Lawrence. The key match-up tonight is likely to be between 5’11” Ritchie Kanza-Mata, who has played his way into a First Team all-star with his strong finish to the season and 6’0″ Marquis Clayton, back after missing about 3 weeks due to injury.
In Guelph, the Gryphons host #1 Ryerson Rams and the home team have their proverbial backs-against-the-wall, trailing Lakehead by two games (Guelph owns the tie-breaker I believe) with just 4 games remaining. The good news for the Gryphs (7-8) is that all 4 remaining games are at home beginning tonight against Ryerson. Guelph then hosts Toronto (Friday night) and then division rivals McMaster and Brock next weekend to close the regular season. Lakehead (9-6) hosts the same Rams on Friday in Thunder Bay and then the Blues on Saturday. Thunderwolves then complete their regular season next weekend at Western and then at Windsor.
Both games are available tonight on AUS.TV and OUA.TV respectively.
