All six playoff teams have been decided in the AUS and tonight’s action – two games: Acadia at UNB and Saint Mary’s at CBU – will decide first-round match ups at next weekend’s AUS tournament. Note that the AUS has scheduled their playoff tournament a full two weeks prior to the CIS Final 8 in Vancouver – strong planning on their part. It will be a four-hour time difference for the AUS champion and the extra week should be very beneficial.
A UNB victory this evening locks up second place for the V-Reds: last night’s easy victory over UPEI, a team with outstanding athletes and offensive talent but one that has been porous defensively whether using their 1-3-1 zone or playing man, has opened up the possibility of the Panthers having to play a first round playoff game, a circumstance that seemed remote two short weeks ago. Varsity Reds will face a rested Acadia group that last played at home on Tuesday night, losing to Saint Mary’s. Huskies continue to peak at the correct time in the season and can potentially finish as high as 4th with a win tonight at Cape Breton.
Playoff seedings/ tournament bracket in the AUS should be available shortly after tonight’s action.
