With the Wilson Cup Final 4 scheduled for Toronto this coming weekend and featuring the #1, #2 and #3 teams in the country as participants, those across the province or nation who cannot get to the Mattamy Athletic Center in Toronto at Ryerson will have to tune in to OUA.TV via the Internet to catch the action. Sources indicate that the previously proposed coverage by Sportsnet will not be available this weekend given some production scheduling issues.
While this is likely to disappoint many, it may convince more to attend what could be multiple and eventual CIS Final 8 match-ups including Friday’s Nation’s Capital battle between Ottawa and Carleton. Expect Ryerson to announce early this week (tomorrow-Monday ?) whether or not the Wilson Cup games will take place on Coca-Cola court – Ryerson’s home during the regular season – or upstairs at Mattamy Home Ice, the venue that has hosted prior Wilson Cups and last season’s CIS Final 8. Coca-Cola court holds about 1,000 spectators while “upstairs” has capacity between 4,500-5,000 to my knowledge. Here’s hoping that scheduling will permit Ryerson to increase the number of fans who can attend live, especially given the circumstances surrounding the TV situation.
