Once again I am catching up on some notable off-season news that is a bit dated but congratulations nonetheless to uOttawa’s 6’1″ Moser Award winning point guard Mike L’Africain, who recently inked a professional contract with CAB Madeira in the Portuguese First Division (LPB) which is the top professional league in that country.
L’Africain joins a team with home on the island of Madeira, south west of Portugal’s mainland and home games will be played in the city of Funchal on the south coast of the island.
L’Africain is scheduled to play on a team with at least 4 Americans including 6’9″ George Blakeney, a 25-year old graduate of UNC-Pembroke, an NCAA Division II program, 6’5″ Alex Marzette from NCAA D1 Robert Morris and a former NAIA All-American who attended the Milwaukee Bucks evaluation camp, 6’4″ Jovonni Shuler, a 28-year old guard from Savannah State and 39-year old veteran center Frederick Gentry from McNeese State. L’Africain joins former Moser Award winner Johnny Berhanemeskel who is scheduled to begin his second season as a professional in Estonia.
Congratulations to Mike as he begins his professional career.
