Jumping out to an early 24-5 lead, the Ravens shredded the Golden Lions zones with strong inside play from 6’7″ Ryan Ejim and made a collective 5 of their first 7 3’s and 14-26 overall in a 117-74 dismantling of Arkansas Pine-Bluff of NCAA Division 1 SWAC. Ejim got free in and around the paint, making 4 of his first 5 shots in the first half of the first quarter and 6’4″ Connor Wood made his first 3 3’s as the Ravens, led by penetrating guard Kaza Keene (6 assists in the first 5 minutes) jumped out to a 20+ point lead before the game was 5 minutes old. 6’4″ Joe Rocca’s 3 gave Carleton a 33-10 lead – Rocca was the 10th Raven to play in the first quarter as the home side led 37-14 after one in a dominating effort.
Carleton played without both 5’11” Emmanuel Owootoah and 6’2″ Stanley Mayambo, both rotation mainstays in the Ravens prior two victories over D1 competition but it did not matter as Ejim (19 points in less than 3 quarters of play), Keene (7 points, 11 assists) and 6’6″ reserve T.J. Lall (18 points on 6-7 shooting in just 2 quarters) pick up the slack. Both Wood and Rocca each shot 5 for 8 from 3, each finishing with 15 points as Carleton shot 65.6% from the field in moving to 3-0 on their Can-Am Shootout schedule as it is being marketed by Carleton.
Ravens host Morgan State this coming Wednesday while Arkansas Pine-Bluff returns to Montreal to face McGill on Sunday.
