Another MEAC team, Florida A&M have also chosen to make their international trip to Canada and the Rattlers will play 4 CIS teams over the next week, beginning with this evening’s game in Montreal against the Citadins at UQAM which begins at 6 PM ET. MEAC cousins Morgan State Bears are also in Canada for the next week as part of their international tour. The Rattlers, out of Tallahassee, Florida are coached Byron Samuels and also travel to Quebec City tomorrow to play Laval then finish off their tour with games in Montreal at McGill on Tuesday and Concordia on Wednesday.
Samuels on the trip to Canada: “When I took the job two years ago, at this point in the season I had only met two of the players. Last year we had four to six players in Summer school. This season we have 12 players in Summer school and they had the opportunity to meet each other and begin to gel. In the allotted days we’ve had to practice together, they’ve begun to understand one another. They’ve competed so hard against one another that there have been times where I’ve had to pull them back. It will bode well for us once the actual season begins.”
Florida A&M comes off an 8-21 campaign in 2015-16 and their ’16-’17 roster is extremely young with no seniors and 14 of the 16 listed on the roster either freshmen or sophomores including 11 first-year players.
