A full slate of games to look forward to today involving CIS teams, beginning with Arkansas Pine-Bluff’s visit to McGill at 1 PM ET. The Golden Lions were hammered by 47 at Carleton on Friday night and the Redmen return to action after their tight loss to Wichita State earlier in the week that became a North American-wide story amid the controversial actions of Wichita State coach Greg Marshall. Arkansas Pine-Bluff is a zone-oriented team defensively so look for McGill to find more time for their shooters including 6’2″ Regis Ivaniukas, who has returned after sitting out last season.
At 2 PM ET in Costa Rica, uOttawa Gee-Gees play their second game in three days against Boise State Broncos. Recall the Gee-Gees jumped out to a big lead and then held on to defeat the Broncos by 2; it was Boise State’s second game of the day after coming back to defeat Brock earlier.
At 3 PM in Ste. Foy, Laval Rouge et Or meet Florida A&M Rattlers who come off a double OT win at UQAM while in the same hour John Campbell’s U of T Varsity Blues play the first of their two games at the “BTC Summer of Thunder 2016” in the Bahamas against perennial NCAA power UNLV Runnin’ Rebels. The Rebels feature a pair of GTA ballers: highly-touted 6’4″ sophomore Jaylen Poyser, who averaged 5.4 ppg in about 15 mpg as a freshman for the Rebels, plus 6’7″ senior forward Tyrell Bellot-Green who got into only 8 games in his first season with the Rebels after transferring in from junior college. Bellot-Green is the son of the late Shawn Green, former Brandon Bobcat and GTA street balling legend. The Rebels finished 18-15 last season.
Later at 7 PM ET, Chris O’Rourke’s Guelph Gryphons play the first of their two summer games against NCAA competition hosting Northwestern State, an NCAA Division 1 program from the Southland Conference from Natchitoches, LA. The Demons come off an 8-20 season in 2015-16.
