McGill holds off Florida A&M


McGill 69, Florida A&M 62  Third-year post Noah Daoust and exciting 6’2″ freshman Greg Trahan each had 7 of their 12 points in the fourth quarter as the Redmen, leading the majority of the way, held off some late Rattler runs for their first win this summer over an NCAA Division 1 team.  McGill won this game with a superior defensive effort, giving up just 42 points in the quarter court – the visiting Rattlers had 20 points off 25 Redmen turnovers.  McGill had leads as large as 15 late in the 3rd but Florida A&M got it to 3 early in the fourth when Trahan, from Gatineau’s Cegep de l’Outaouais CEGEP where he played for CIS legend Osvaldo Jeanty, knocked down a 3 helping to push McGill’s lead back to double digits.  Later, the Rattlers got it back down to 6 in the final minute however Trahan, who went 3-4 from downtown off the bench for McGill, hit another clutch shot from downtown to clinch it.  The Redmen, who once again played without two projected starters in 6’2″ Dele Ogundokun and 6’5″ Michael Peterkin, won despite shooting just 12 for 25 from the free throw line including a concerning 6 for 14 from the line in the fourth quarter.  6’8″ Francois Bourque, who was injured during Sunday’s game against Arkansas Pine-Bluff, finished with a 10-point, 13-rebound double double for McGill while 6’1″ Jenning Leung had 11 pts, 5 rebounds and 4 assists in the win.
