Thunderbirds hammer Fleming as ABC kicks off in the Soo

Algoma 95 Fleming 60… The T-Birds kicked off their season with a decisive win over OCAA Sir Stanford Fleming from Peterborough.  6’2″ fourth-year guard Sean Clendinning led the way with 15 points for Algoma while U.S. import 6’6″ freshman forward Nick Gehlen chipped in with 11 while B.C. native forward Adam Benrabah had 10 points and 4 rebounds in the win.  The game featured a teacher vs. student matchup as Algoma Head Coach Thomas Cory, for the first time in his career, coached against one of his former players in Jovain Wilson, a former OCAA star in Algoma who played for Cory when the program was still part of the OCAA/CCAA.  Fleming was led by 6’10” Matt Nelson, a former uOttawa Gee-Gee, who led all scorers with 17 points and 8 rebounds.  In the other game in 4 team tournament, North Bay’s Canadore College defeat local Sault College 66-62.  The tournament continues today.
