Thunderbirds win 2nd straight at ABC


Algoma 76 Canadore 70…  The Orillia Twin Lakes brother duo of Jake and Sean Cledinning had game highs of 19 points each as the Thunderbirds defeated Canadore in the second game of the Algoma Basketball Classic in Sault Ste. Marie.  Jake, entering his third season, added 5 rebounds and 2 assists as Algoma moved to 2-0 in the tournament.  Former Nipissing Laker Will Konyobai, who moved across town to the North Bay college for this season, led the way for Canadore with 14 points and 6 rebounds.

In the other game, 6’10” former uOttawa Gee-Gee Matt Nelson exploded for 41 points, 14 rebounds and 5 blocks while teammate Taylor Robinson, a Peterborough native who was a 2nd team OCAA All-star last season added 33 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists but Sir Sanford Fleming still lost 107-97 to Sault College as J Rashon had 30 points and 7 boards while Matt Brown added 16 and 3 for the winners.
