Thunderbirds romp to ABC tournament victory


Algoma 106 Sault College 76… The T-Birds captured the championship of their own tournament with an easy win against their cross-town rivals as Algoma’s 6’5″ U.S. import Elijah Butler, a fourth-year transfer from Olympic College in the state of Washington led all scorers with 18 points and added 7 rebounds.  Tournament All-Star Sean Clendinning chipped in with 17 points while steady 6’4″ wing Adam Benrabah contributed 10 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists.

In the other game, Canadore defeated Fleming 89-75 as tournament all-star Will Konyibai led all scorers with 21 points while Fleming’s Matt Nelson had 20.

Algoma travels to North Bay next weekend to participate in the Nipissing Invitational where the Thunderbirds will play three games against OUA rivals Laurentian (Friday), the host Lakers (Saturday) and Laurier Golden Hawks (Sunday).
