UQAM (3-0) 85, Cape Breton (0-1) 82… The Citadins rallied from an early 17 point deficit to defeat the Capers by 3 in a game played at Champlain-St. Lambert College. The teams combined for 54 turnovers and 52 fouls (31 against the Capers) in this early season affair. UQAM had 4 players in double figures led by 6’4″ Greishe Clerjuste, who led all scorers with 28 points. 6’0″ Charles Miller added 16 points but was just 1 for 7 from downtown as the Citadins shot just 4 for 24 from beyond the stripe but were solid (29-34/85%) from the free throw line. 6’4″ Ottawa native Christian Kadima (REDA/Ottawa Louis Riel) added 12 points and 7 boards for UQAM while improving 6’11” big man Yassin Debache also had 12 and 7.
The Capers, who had all 12 players who saw action hit the score sheet, got 24 points on 6-9 shooting from Montreal native 6’5″ Kenny Jean-Louis and 15 (3-6 3’s) from sophomore shooting guard Jack MacAuley. Capers shot 7 for 17 from 3 and 48% overall from the floor but could not overcome 27 turnovers and 31 fouls committed in their first game under new Head Coach Dave Petroziello. Capers will next participate in the Concordia tournament, meeting Brock Badgers Friday night at 6 PM ET. UQAM meets La Cite College from Ottawa this evening before hosting Stevens Institute of Technology, an NCAA Division III program from Hoboken, New Jersey, at home on Sunday at 1:30 PM ET.
