Windsor (1-1) 95, Mount Royal (1-1) 83… One night after getting pasted by Calgary, the Lancers came out firing at Mount Royal, blasting out to a 25 point first half lead by shooting a scorching 57% from the floor including 9 for 16 from 3 before cruising to the easy win in Calgary. 6’2″ Micqueel Martin again led the way with 26 points and 8 rebounds and floor general 5’11” Mike Rocca flirted with a triple double with 9 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists in another sterling effort from the point guard spot for the Lancers. Canada West all-star Brett Layton had 17 to lead the Cougars, who turned it over 20 times. Lancers 6’4″ freshman Lucas Wood came off the bench to go 3 for 4 from downtown while Djordje Babic added 12 points on 3-5 shooting from 3 as Windsor went 15 for 34 overall for the game shooting from long-range. Windsor was whistled for 22 fouls against just 10 for the Cougars, partially a testament as how Lancers relied on their perimeter shooting for the win. Lancers Coach Chris Oliver was pleased with the result and effort however remained guarded with his young and emerging group: “We aren’t as bad as the Calgary game and probably not as good as how we played this evening. Tonight, instead of relying on individualism when things didn’t go our way like we did in Calgary, we focused on the process and doing what we can to help each other succeed.” Lancers meet Regina Cougars this afternoon to complete their tour of Calgary while Mount Royal and Calgary meet in this season’s first edition of the battle of Calgary.
