Naismith: Humber knocks off Manitoba


Humber 82, Manitoba 71… Hawks held Manitoba to just 11 points on 4-23 (17%) shooting during a game-deciding second quarter run that established a double digit lead as the OCAA/CCAA power authored an important win against a Bisons side expected to contend for the Canada West title.  6’5″ fourth-year forward Ancil Martin led the way with 21 points on 8-14 shooting as the Hawks built a 60-47 lead after 3 quarters.  Humber also received an energetic effort from 6’5″ athletic forward Cham Ujullu, a freshman from Kitchener Eastwood, who finished with 14 points on 5-7 shooting.  The native of Ethiopia was impactful playing in the shadow of highly-touted Bisons 6’7″ freshman forward James Wagner, who finished with 7 points and 7 rebounds in 20 minutes.  The Hawks forced 23 Bison turnovers and shot 25 for 51 (>50%) from inside the three point line.  6’3″ Justus Alleyn led all scorers with 23 points, going 3 for 5 from 3 while 6’2″ Illarion Bonhomme, starting in place of the injured 6’4″ wing/forward Keith Omoerah who missed the game, had 11 points and 7 rebounds.  Sharpshooting 6’1″ guard A.J. Basi went just 3 for 12 from the floor, finishing with 8 points.  In the second game of the tournament this evening at 8 PM, host Waterloo Warriors kick off their CIS pre-season, hosting UQAM Citadins (3-0).
