Gee-Gees pull away early to defeat Alberta


Ottawa (1-1) 73, Alberta (0-1) 63… 6’3″ Caleb Agada displayed his all-round talents with 16 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals as the Gee-Gees had leads as large as 25, holding off a Golden Bears rally that got the game back as close as 6 late to win the first game of the Tindall Invitational at Queen’s.  6’9″ Jean Pierre-Charles added 16 points and 8 boards while fellow forward 6’7″ Brody Maracle added 15 for Ottawa.  6’2″ guard Austin Waddoups, a transfer from Salt Lake Community College, had 13 for Alberta while 6’2″ freshman guard Andre Kelly added 12 for the Golden Bears while stars 6’6″ Mamadou Gueye and 6’5″ Brody Clarke combined to shoot just 6 for 17 from the floor.

Manitoba (2-2) 85, UQAM (4-1) 78… 6’3″ Justus Alleyn shot 4-6 from downtown, finishing with 23 points as the Bisons pulled to a double digit second quarter lead to knock the Citadins from the ranks of the undefeated as the second day of the Naismith Classic kicked off.  6’7″ Joey Nitychoruk, a transfer from Lakehead, added 18 points and 7 rebounds off the bench for Manitoba which avenged an opening night loss to Humber with a solid win.  Misi Boye had 15 points to lead 4 Citadins in double figures.
