Warriors make huge progress in close loss to Humber

Humber 76, Waterloo 74… 6’2″ Ancil Martin broke a tie with the game winning bucket with just 4 seconds remaining as the Hawks won their second consecutive game at the Naismith.  The Warriors jumped out to a double digit first-half lead by defending and rebounding but the young group could not hold on as the Hawks roared back to win by 2.  6’5″ forward Mike Pereira was terrific inside for the Warriors with 20 points and 11 rebounds on 8-15 shooting while veteran 6’2″ shooting guard Jon Ravenhorst, another 5th year guy, had 13 in the loss.  Waterloo Head Coach Justin Gunter has invested in his group of three top freshman including 6’2″ Simon Petrov, 6’5″ Nadim Hodzic and 6’4″ Justin Hardy – all 3 started and would have played 30+ minutes save for Hodzic’s foul trouble.  Hardy had 8 points and 6 rebounds while Hodzic had 10 and 3 in just 24 minutes.  Waterloo also got a contribution from Spanish import David Ramon Prados who hit a pair of 3’s.  The Hawks turned it around in the second half of the strength of strong inside play from 6’6″ Tyrone Dickson who had 7 points and 10 boards and Ancil Martin who finished with 18 as Hawks shot just 2 for 16 from 3.  Humber meets UQAM with a chance to capture the Naismith tournament title this afternoon while Waterloo finishes the tournament against Manitoba at 6 PM ET.
