Saint Mary’s (5-0) 83, St. FX (2-5) 77… The Huskies took the lead for good late in the third quarter and extended to as many as 12 late in capturing the St. FX Invitational over the host X-Men in Antigonish. After sharpshooting 6’3″ guard Tristan Ross gave X their final lead at 58-56, Huskies freshman guard 6’2″ Kordeiro James knocked down a three of his own and SMU never trailed thereafter. All 5 Saint Mary’s starters scored in double figures including 6’5″ Theon Reefer with 18 points and solid third year 6’3″ wing Kemar Alleyne with a 17 point/12 rebound double double. Diminutive 5’10” guard Marquis Clayton added 14 points and 8 assists. 6’7″ Kevin Bercy led X with a game-high 31 points/13 rebounds including 17 points and 10 boards after halftime however X-Men could not overcome a 17 for 32 effort at the foul line. In gaining the important road win, the Huskies turned it over just 10 times and shot 71% from the line. Saint Mary’s again played without important 6’8″ center Osman Barrie who remains out of the lineup with a leg injury. Holland College defeated Cape Breton 94-70 in the other game as the Capers committed 30 fouls, turned it over 23 times and shot just 30% on the night.
