Varsity Blues handle DIII Carroll U. at home

Toronto 82, Carroll U. (NCAA DIII) 74... The Blues used a 20-4 run to close the third quarter to jump to leads as large as 19, led by 6’5″ Devin Johnson‘s 28 points and 9 rebounds in a comfortable win against Carroll U., an NCAA DIII from Wisconsin.  Toronto was aided by a tremendous 32 for 36 effort from the foul line, offsetting a 2-13 effort from beyond the 3 point line.  After a 14-3 second quarter run put the Blues up by 10, Carroll brought the game back to 3 at 46-43 early in the third.  But Johnson scored 9 of his game high output during the game-deciding run and the Blues held off a late Carroll rally that got it to 6 with under a minute to play in gaining the non-conference win.  6’4″ Manny Sahota added 14 for Toronto, who plays Guelph next weekend in Woodstock, Ontario.
