Acadia 108, Holland College 87… 6’0″ Nick De Palma cemented his reputation as one of the top three point shooters in the country with a blistering 7 for 8 effort from downtown as the Axemen came out firing – 6 of their first 9 field goals overall came from three-point land – in a 20+ point dismantling of the Hurricanes as the Capers Classic kicked off. 6’9″ lefty Erik Nissen had his way inside for Acadia with 34 points and 11 rebounds as the Axemen shared the ball beautifully, assisting on 29 of their 40 field goals overall while shooting 58% including 15 of 29 3’s. De Palma, who finished with 25 points, put the game away for good with consecutive 3’s in the first two minutes of the second half, giving Acadia a 68-41 lead. Acadia had only 9 turnovers all afternoon and also got 24 points from 6’5″ veteran Kyle Arsenault.
In the other game, Saint Mary’s Huskies improved to 5-0 vs. CIS competition, pulling away in the fourth quarter to defeat UPEI Panthers 81-65.
In St. Catharines, Brock Badgers defeated Redeemer College 75-59 in an afternoon game before a packed house of local students in a game providing awareness to the issues surrounding mental health.
