Queen’s (2-4) 84, UNB (1-3) 83 in OT… Diminutive 5’10” guard Sammy Ayisi knocked down the go ahead three with 5.1 seconds remaining in OT as the Gaels escaped with a much-needed victory over the Varsity Reds after blowing a 13 point lead with just 2 minutes remaining in regulation. The Reds were once again almost rescued by the spectacular play of 6’0″ Javon Masters who shook off a quiet start with 28 of his game-high 37 points in the second half and the OT. Masters had all six of UNB’s points in the extra session, giving his team the lead just prior to Ayisi’s clutch shot. 6’7″ Tanner Graham took over much of the Gaels offense in the absence of 6’3″ Sukhpreet Singh, who was not with the team, scoring 24 points, grabbing 13 rebounds and adding 6 assists. Queen’s shot just 13 for 41 from 3 and 17-29 from the line, almost giving the game up after a big late lead. Hess Mayele had 9 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists in the loss for UNB. Laval hosts Queen’s tomorrow night in the final of this mini 3-team round robin in Quebec City.
