McMaster (7-0) 87, Laurentian (0-1) 68… Once again making efficient use of the 3-ball, Marauders shot a tidy 12 for 20 from beyond the arc including 8 for 12 in the first half alone in defeating the Voyageurs as the McGill Redbird Classic kicked off in Montreal. 6’4″ fifth-year senior Rohan Boney appears intent on leading his team to a top ranking in this early season as he had a game-high 26 points on 9-12 shooting. 6’4″ Lazar Kojovic made 4 3’s and had 16 while steady 6’7″ Connor Gilmore added 14 for the Marauders who remain undefeated against CIS/U-Sport competition. Mac again did the little things that usually translate into success away from their home floor, going 17 for 21 (81%) from the free throw line and turning it over just 9 times. Top 6’2″ guard David McCulloch had an efficient 8-point, 6-assist, 1-turnover afternoon in 30 minutes. The Vees got 19 points from returning 6’5″ athlete Nelson Yengue, who sat out the past two seasons but gives Coach Shawn Swords a terrific presence with explosiveness around the rim. 6’4″ Othel Watson added 18 for Laurentian while 6’2″ freshman combo guard Kadre Gray (Eastern Commerce/Oakwood) added 16 points but turned it over 7 times. Laurentian made just 1 of 19 three-point goals. Mac meets UBC-O tomorrow while Laurentian gets McGill tomorrow night.
