Lancers recover to defeat York; Ryerson dominates

Windsor (4-1) 93, York (0-4) 85…  5’10” point guard Mike Rocca again flirted with a triple-double, scoring a team-high 22 points, adding 10 rebounds and 7 assists as the Lancers took over in the fourth quarter with a gutsy almost ugly win over the Lions.  6’5″ sophomore Lucas Orlita was instrumental in the win, coming alive knocking down 6 of 7 threes finishing with a career-high 22 points while 6’4″ freshman Lucas Wood (Guelph Bishop Macdonnell) added 12 points on 3-6 shooting from downtown.  Lancers, led by their scrappy, diminutive guard Rocca, turned it over only 10 times all night and overcame a tough night from 6’2″ Micqueel Martin who went just 5 for 21 from the floor but did grab 10 rebounds and dole out 4 assists, adding 7 steals.  6’5″ athlete Jayden Frederick led York with 24 points on 11-20 shooting while 6’5″ Nidun Chadrakumar added 14 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists for the Lions who were hampered by 27 turnovers, 19 offensive boards allowed and a difficult 3 for 17 effort from downtown.  York meets UQAM tomorrow morning while Windsor meets a likely Top 10 team, Dalhousie Tigers as the tournament concludes in St. Catharines tomorrow.

In the other afternoon game, Ryerson pounded Niagara College Knights 89-52.
