AUS: Seahawks sweep reeling UNB in St. John’s

Memorial (2-0) 87, UNB (0-2) 81… 6’3″ reserve wing Daniel Gordon had 10 of his team-high 22 points in the fourth quarter when the ‘Hawks built their largest lead at 18 points with 6 1/2 minutes remaining while 6’2″ fourth-year reserve shooting guard Kieran Hawksley added 16 on 4-5 3’s as Memorial swept UNB this weekend in St. John’s.  With the score tied at 26, Hawksley led a 14-7 run to end the first half, highlighted by back-to-back 3’s and an old fashioned “and 1″ to build a lead MUN would not relinquish.  6’0” All-Canadian guard Javon Masters had 15 to lead the V-Reds but shot just 5-17 from the floor, finishing the weekend shooting just 32% from the floor including 1-7 from 3.  6’0″ Davion Parnsalu added 15 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for MUN, which won despite getting only 7 points in 14 minutes from 6’9″ Vasilije Curcic.  After a tough pre-season, the Seahawks are tied with Dalhousie and Saint Mary’s at the top of the AUS standings, all with 2-0 records.  Memorial travels to Antigonish next Saturday and Sunday for a pair of games against St. FX while UNB gets set to host UPEI Panthers for a pair Friday and Saturday.  AUS action continues on Wednesday as the top two rated teams in the conference meet in Halifax with Saint Mary’s hosting Dalhousie.
