With virtually all teams much improved, RSEQ season kicks off tonight with two games, both in Montreal, as Bishop’s Gaiters visit Concordia and Laval Rouge et Or are at McGill. Gaiters come off an injury-plagued pre-season, having lost last season’s RSEQ Rookie-of-the-year Abdul Kamane to an ankle injury at the recent Jack Donohue Memorial tournament. Stingers played that entire tournament without the services of last season’s RSEQ all-star 6’4″ Ken Beaulieu but have almost-ridiculous depth up and down the lineup. Another program with significant injury issues have been Laval, which comes off a disappointing lost last weekend to Nipissing in their final pre-season game. McGill was dominated in all facets against uOttawa a couple of weeks ago. Both games begin at 8 PM ET and are available via webcast. On Saturday, UQAM Citadins kick-off their season in Lennoxville against Bishop’s – most are forecasting that these two teams will battle for the 4th and final playoff spot in the “Q”. On Sunday, Concordia travels to Laval. There is also one Canada West game this evening as Lethbridge Pronghorns travel to Calgary to meet Mount Royal Cougars in the first of a Thursday/Saturday home-and-home set.
