Canada West Friday recap


Manitoba (2-1) 90, Thompson Rivers (0-3) 68… Back-to-back threes by 6’3″ Justus Alleyn and 6’0″ A.J. Basi started a 21-1 run as Bisons took the lead for good on the final possession of the third quarter and stormed to what turned out to be an easy win at home vs. the WolfPack.  6’4″ Keith Omoerah led the way with 20 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists including three consecutive buckets that extended the lead to double digits early in the fourth.

Saskatchewan (2-1) 76, Winnipeg (2-1) 68… The Huskies built an early double digit lead, extended it to 20 early in the third quarter and were rarely threatened thereafter in a comfortable win at home over the Wesmen, who lost their first game vs. CIS opponent this season.  6’2″ sophomore guard Chan DeCiman knocked down 4 3’s and had 21 to lead Saskatchewan, which got 18 points and 12 rebounds from star forward 6’6″ Shane Osayande, with 17 points coming in the second half.  6’3″ freshman Narcisse Ambanza, a product of Toronto Eastern Commerce, match Osayande with 21 of his game-high 23 points in the second half on 11-12 shooting.

Alberta (3-0) 78, UNBC (0-3) 69… Bears held off a late charge by the hometown Timberwolves which brought a double-digit fourth-quarter deficit down to 2 on three separate occasions but 6’1″ Austin Waddoups (19 points, 7 rebounds) had a clutch old fashioned “and 1″ and later 6’4” Geoff Pippus (15 points on 3-4 3’s) rang home a big three with just over a minute to play to lead Alberta on the road.  Bears also got a solid effort from 6’7″ sophomore Brody Clarke (16 points, 9 rebounds) which included some clutch last-minute free throws.

In other games, Calgary (2-1) got 30 points out of 6’5″ Thomas Cooper in a 101-75 shellacking of UVic Vikes in Victoria… 6’6″ Ryan Coleman had 20 of his team-high 21 points in the first half to lift MacEwan to an 88-84 win over Regina… Trinity Western won in OT at Fraser Valley… Brandon dominated UBC-O 82-69.
