RSEQ: Laval climbs into 1st Place after road win at UQAM

Laval (5-8, 3-1) 80, UQAM (7-5, 2-2) 71… 6’1″ Vladimir Thomas came off the bench to score 9 of his 14 points in the fourth quarter, starting a game-deciding 18-5 run early in the fourth as Rouge et Or won at UQAM as Laval finished the game making 11 of their final 16 shots.  With Citadins leading 60-54 and 8 minutes left in the fourth, Thomas and 5’11” point guard Karl Demers-Belanger hit back-to-back 3’s and 6’5″ Charles Andre-Edorh (14 points) followed with a conventional “and 1″ three-point play, giving Laval their first lead since midway through the third quarter and one Rouge et Or would not relinquish.  Later, 6’5” Alexandre Leclerc, who was held in check for much of the night (11 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists), finished a put-back and also made a pair of free throws late to build the lead to 9.  UQAM, which got 15 points from 6’4″ Christian Kadima, turned it over 6 times in the last 7 minutes of the game.   6’2″ lefty Greishe Clerjuste shot just 4-17 and finished with 11 points on 1-7 shooting from downtown – Citadins shot just 2-10 after halftime from beyond the stripe – but added 6 rebounds and 6 assists.  Laval completes the calendar 2016 portion of their RSEQ schedule at 3-1 and currently sits in first place, just ahead of McGill (2-1) who meets Bishop’s (0-3) this afternoon in Lennoxville.  Citadins (2-2) have one more game next Friday night at home against Concordia (2-2) before the end of 2016.
