Alberta 79, Lakehead 77

One of the more entertaining finishes of the season in Winnipeg as 6’7″ Mamadou Gueye knocked down the game-winning three from the left baseline off a fine feed from 6’7″ Brody Clarke as Alberta held off a tough challenge from Lakehead, bouncing back after giving up a late 10 point lead.  Gueye shook off a sluggish offensive start, getting 10 of his 14 points in the fourth quarter including a pair of 3’s and difficult 8 foot floater which appeared to give Alberta the lead for good with under a minute to play.  But 6’5″ Alexandre Robichaud (12 points, 8 rebounds), with the shot clock winding down and just 15 seconds remaining, swished a very difficult three from the left pocket with a hand in his face.  Clarke led all scorers with 22 points (10-16 shooting) making life difficult inside for Lakehead defends and knocking down a series of elbow jumpers off the pick and pop.  6’1″ Austin Waddoups had 17 points and 3 assists for the Golden Bears while Lakehead was led by 6’0″ Henry Tan with 16 on just 4-11 shooting from the field (7-8 free throws as T-Wolves shot 17-19 as a team from the stripe).  6’0″ Mor Menashe, who single-handidly got Lakehead back into the game late, leading a 10-0, finished with 10 including 6 consecutive in the big run.  Lakehead welcomed back impact 6’2″ guard Nick Burke, who missed much of the first half due to injury, with 12 points including an important three during their run that got the game back to even late.  Lakehead shot 7 for 20 from downtown in the second half.
