Memorial (11-7, 7-2) 93, Saint Mary’s (12-6, 4-4)... 6’9″ Vasilije Curcic had 25 points and 7 rebounds including a thunderous dunk in the second quarter and 6’0″ reserve guard Daniel Gordon added 20 as the Seahawks maintained their lead atop the AUS with an easy win over an under-manned Huskies team playing without 5’10” Marquis Clayton and under-rated 6’6″ forward Brent Martindale. The game remained close until midway through the third quarter when a 14-0 Memorial run, featuring 7 points from Curcic, blew the game open.
Clayton missed tonight’s game after being ejected from Saint Mary’s last game prior to the holiday break at St. FX which by AUS rules precipitates a one-game suspension – he should be back for tomorrow afternoon’s second 4-point affair. Martindale suffered a concussion recently and did not play. Huskies also will be without the services of 6’8″ Osman Barrie for the remainder of the season as the impact forward will have surgery in the coming days to correct an injury that has sidelined him since September.
6’8″ Achuil Lual did return to the Huskies lineup after missing the Shoveller tournament and had 12 points and 17 rebounds off the bench while 6’5″ Brian Rouse led all scorers with 26 points. The teams meet again tomorrow in St. John’s in an early afternoon start.
