Two games tonight, both in the “Q” with Bishop’s Gaiters quickly getting to a “must win” situation to remain in the playoff race. Recall that 4 of the 5 teams in this conference qualify for a two-day, four-team tournament in Montreal in early March and the Gaiters, presently at 2-6 in fifth spot in the standing with a schedule that includes three games – including two on the road – against first-place McGill, start a two-game home-and-home set tonight at the BeeHive in Montreal against Concordia (4-4). Gaiters had a chance to steal one from the Stingers before Christmas in Montreal but lost by 3. In the other game this evening, resurgent UQAM (5-5), which swept Bishop’s last weekend to move back to .500 in league play at 5-5, travel to Ste. Foy to meet Laval (4-4), which has been besieged by injuries this season. Prior to their bye last weekend, Rouge et Or were swept by Bishop’s including an 84-69 loss in Lennoxville. Laval’s 1st team all-star wing 6’5″ Alexandre Leclerc missed both games with an ankle injury and his status for this weekend is not known. In the only other meeting of the season between these two teams, Laval staged a fourth-quarter comeback to upend the Citadins 80-71, outscoring UQAM 26-11 in the final 7 minutes of play to claim the road win. Both games begin at 8 PM ET this evening.
McGill 7-3 (idle)
