A large crowd is expected as Windsor Lancers move their home game tonight against Laurier Golden Hawks to Caesar’s Windsor for a 5 PM ET start. The event is part of a partnership between the Lancers and Windsor’s professional team, the Express designed to bring more awareness to Windsor basketball. Lancers, off last weekend, have lost 3 in a row and 4 of their past 5 including an upset loss at Algoma 2 1/2 weeks ago. Windsor is #10 in the RPI and with remaining games after tonight at Waterloo and home to McMaster and Brock, a playoff spot is still not a certainty for Windsor. #9 RPI Laurier is 3-5 in calendar 2017 with games remaining at home against Western on Saturday and then their regular season finale in Thunder Bay at Lakehead a week from Saturday. A victory by either team solidifies their playoff aspirations while the loser will fall back into the tightening race for #10, #11 and #12.
In London, a pair of teams which have come on as of late meet at Alumni Hall with Waterloo, fresh off their most impressive win of the season, a 21 point shellacking of McMaster right in Burridge Gym, face Western, which swept Algoma and have won three of their past 5 games – the only 2 losses in that stretch to #1 Carleton and #3 Ottawa. A very quick analysis using Martin Timmerman’s RPI “what if” tool, plugging in winning all remaining games for both teams still leaves both short of the playoffs – however I stand to be corrected. Game time in London is 8 PM ET.
