Memorial 97, UPEI 90… 6’4″ second-year forward Greg Manual hit back-to-back threes during a mid-fourth-quarter 12-0 run after which Seahawks never trailed and 6’9″ Vasilije Curcic had 26 points as Memorial swept the Panthers, eliminating UPEI from post-season play. After 6’0″ fifth-year shooting guard Jake Kendrick had propelled the Panthers to a 71-64 lead with back-to-back threes, Manual, a native of Dartmouth, NS, followed making his only two 3’s of the game, also on back-to-back possessions to give MUN the lead. 6’2″ Tyler Scott, now the leading scorer in the AUS, scored the final 17 points of the game for UPEI – part of a game-high 32 point effort – which tied the game at 76 but 6’2″ Kieran Hawksley led a game-deciding 13-3 run as Memorial pulled away. Panthers got it to within 3 with just over a minute to play but Seahawks won it on the foul line. 6’2″ Daniel Gordon had another impact effort off the bench for Memorial with 20 points as the Seahawks moved to 11-7 on the AUS regular season, good for 28 points and fourth place. With just two games remaining – at Acadia in a pair of four point affairs – Memorial retains an outside chance at a first round bye in the AUS tournament – as of today, MUN can finish anywhere from second to sixth. Panthers (5-12, 12 points) have only 10 more available points and trail sixth place Acadia by 10 points however Axemen own the head-to-head tie breaker.
