Laval 70, Bishop’s 68… 6’5″ Alain Bernard‘s put back with about 15 seconds remaining was the difference as Rouge et Or locked up the final RSEQ playoff spot for all intents and purposes with a late comeback win in Lennoxville. Gaiters launched a big comeback of their own when, down 7 with 3 1/2 minutes remaining, 6’5″ Abdul Kamane keyed an 11-2 run with 7 of his 14 points, giving Bishop’s a two point lead with 1:13 to play. But Gaiters would not score the rest of the way with Bernard’s finish the deciding play. Rouge et Or (5-8) broke a 7 game losing streak and have a three game lead over Bishop’s with 3 games to play, finishing their season series tied at 2-2 with Gaiters owning the tie-breaker. Bishop’s needs to sweep their remaining 3 games and have Laval lose all 3 of their for Gaiters to qualify. 6’0″ Jona Bermillo had 16 points and 7 assists for Bishop’s while 6’5″ Joel Muamba had 19 points while 6’5″ forward Frantson Demosthene had a monster rebounding effort with 17 boards.
Concordia 63, UQAM 52… Stingers pulled further ahead in second place with a road win at UQAM, holding the Citadins to just 8 fourth-quarter points. 6’4″ Ken Beaulieu and 6’5″ Schneiders Suffrard each led the way with 13 points for Concordia, now 9-4 and just one game behind first-place McGill – the teams meet on Thursday in the BeeHive in a game that will go a long way to deciding which team wins the RSEQ regular season pennant. 6’11” Yassin Debauche had 13 points and 5 boards to lead the Citadins, firmly in third place in the “Q”. Concordia coach Rastko Popovic was pleased with his troops: “After a sluggish first half , we locked in defensively especially down the stretch, holding uqam to only 3 points in first 8 1/2 minutes of the 4th Q. We did a good job of making it difficult for (Citadins star wing) Greishe Clerjuste all night (editor’s note Clerjuste finished with 5 points on the night). Offensively we did a better job in the second half also with only 3 turnovers but we must capitalize when we get open looks.”
