RSEQ: Laval pushes toward 3rd place

Laval 73, UQAM 62… 6’7″ second-year forward Joel Muamba had his second consecutive strong offensive effort with 17 points and 10 rebounds and Rouge et Or started a game-deciding 9-0 run with 6 minutes remaining that broke a 57-57 tie to move to within 1/2 game of third-place Citadins in the RSEQ standings.  Muamba, inserted in the starting lineup after a 19 point effort at Bishop’s last weekend and in the absence of 6’5″ Alexandre Leclerc from the lineup, is clearly starting to show some of his promising potential down the stretch after transferring back home from Northwest College, a juco in Wyoming after last season.  Rouge et Or now own the tie-breaker for third place as, although the teams split 4 regular season games, Laval has a +11 point differential in those games.  Laval (6-8) has a home game against McGill and a road game at Concordia remaining while UQAM (7-8) finishes their season next weekend at Bishop’s.  The lone remaining RSEQ game this weekend goes this afternoon at McGill as the Gaiters visit for a 3 PM ET start on Senior’s Day with 6’1″ Jenning Leung, 6’5″ Michael Peterkin and 6’5″ Daniel Pieper among the Redmen who will be honored.
