Warriors on brink of elimination after late bang-bang “and 1” call

UPDATED WITH LAURIER PLAYOFF POSSIBILITIES…

Lakehead 66, Waterloo 62… 6’5″ Bacarius Dinkins scored the winning basket with 26 seconds remaining, finishing an “and 1″ on a bang/bang play that could have gone either way as the Thunderwolves push the resilient Warriors to the brink of elimination from the OUA playoffs.  6’2” freshman guard Simon Petrov had knocked down a clutch three to give Waterloo the lead by 1 before Dinkins play.  Petrov, who led all scorers with 22 points, had another tremendous effort down the stretch but Waterloo could not overcomea 4 for 21 effort from downtown in another exciting finish.  Warriors still have a slight chance to make the post-season but Waterloo must win at Guelph tonight AND Western must defeat McMaster + Windsor must defeat Brock + Laurier must defeat Lakehead.

Queen’s 70, York 60… The Gaels broke an 11 game losing streak, leading by as many as 22 midway through the third quarter as 6’2″ Sukhpreet Singh celebrated his Senior’s Night with an impactful 21 point, 8 rebound, 6 assist effort that sent the Lions to their 8th consecutive loss and their second straight season of not participating in the post-season.

Ottawa 74, Toronto 54… 6’5″ Matt Plunkett and 6’4″ freshman Gage Sabean combined to shoot 10 for 20 from downtown as the Gee-Gees forged to an early lead and cruised even without 6’3″ Caleb Agada, who continues to nurse a deep bone bruise injury.  Toronto shot just 3 for 18 from downtown in the disappointing loss.

Laurentian 87, Algoma 64… 6’2″ freshman Kadre Gray had another sterling offensive performance with 30 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists as the Voyageurs won handily on the road in Sault Ste. Marie.

With Waterloo’s loss and Queen’s victory last night, 9 of the 12 OUA playoff teams are now known.  Four teams (Laurier, Guelph, Lakehead and Waterloo) now vying for the final remaining three spots in advance of the final night of the regular season tonight.  Key games are:

Laurier at Lakehead 8 PM ET

Waterloo at Guelph 8 PM ET

McMaster at Western 3 PM ET and Brock and Windsor 3 PM ET also have an impact (see more below).

Here are the possibilities based on as many iterations of Martin’s tool as my mind could process:

LAURIER: Win and Golden Hawks are in.  Lose and wins by Guelph, McMaster and Brock and Golden Hawks will be eliminated.

GUELPH:  Gryphons must defeat Waterloo and have Lakehead defeat Laurier plus McMaster defeat Western.  If Western defeats Mac this afternoon, Guelph is eliminated.

WATERLOO:  Warriors must win at Guelph and have all of the following occur:  Western beat Mac, Windsor defeat Brock, Laurier defeat Lakehead.

LAKEHEAD:  Win and T-Wolves are in.  The only scenario under which Lakehead would eliminated if they lose to Laurier tonight is if Waterloo, Western and Windsor all win tonight.
