Cooper rescues Dinos, OT wins keeps “at-large” bid going

Calgary 111, Saskatchewan 106 in OT… With their season on the line, 6’5″ Thomas Cooper awoke his team with a sterling performance down the stretch with 19 points in the final minute and a half and extra frame including the tying jumper in regulation and first 5 points of the OT as the Dinos came back from a six-point deficit with just 1 1/2 minutes remaining to stay in the running for the “at-large” bid to the U-Sport Final 8.  Cooper, who finished with 32 points, struggled for much of the game amid generally cold shooting for Calgary as Saskatchewan’s dynamic 6’2″ guard Lawrence Moore broke with a career-high 33 points but turned it over on a charge late in regulation.  But Cooper, who had just one second-half field goal before turning it on in the final 2 minutes, made All-Canadian plays at both ends, keeping Calgary in the wild card discussion.  With Brock’s dramatic win over Ottawa in the Wilson Cup Bronze Medal game just completed, expect Calgary, Brock and UBC to all submit bids for an “at large” bid with the committee having their hands full to select the most worthy team.
