Gryphons bring in impact Nigerian import big man

Guelph Coach Chris O’Rourke has pulled off one of his better recruiting coups, announcing today the signing of 6’9″ Emmanuel “Manny” Chukwu, who starred this past season at Suffield Academy in Connecticut.  Chukwu, who had a scholarship offer on the table from NYIT Bears, an NCAA Division II program in the East Coast Conference (ECC), was born in Nigeria before arriving in the U.S.A. at the age of 14 and is the younger brother of Syracuse Orangeman 7’2″ center Paschal Chukwu.  Chukwu features a 7’1″ wing span, projecting as a solid rim-protecting big-man who can run the floor and adds another long athletic big to the young Gryphons front court which includes 6’8″ Sean Carey and 6’7″ Banky Alade, both entering their sophomore seasons.
