U-Sports crew leads the way as Canada moves to 2-0 at Maccabiah 2017

In what every basketball fan in Canada hopes is a precursor of even greater international basketball results today, Canada’s Maccabiah 2017 men’s team moved to 2-0 in their preliminary group play with a resounding 79-56 pasting of Mexico earlier today in Jerusalem.

Four players with U Sports affiliations had large efforts including energetic 6’6″ lefty forward Adam Halpern, who continues to be Canada’s best rebounder, as the former Queen’s Golden Gael had 14 points and 16 rebounds while 6’1″ Ave Bross (McGill alumnus) had 14 points/3 assists and 6’0″ Lakehead guard Mor Menashe finished with 14 points and 5 assists.  Current U of T Varsity Blues starting guard Sage Usher added 13 points and 4 dimes as Canada held the lead for virtually the entire game.

Canada will likely be tested tomorrow as our crew faces off against USA and then on Tuesday against France, needing at least one victory in these 2 games to find their way into the medal round.
