Golden Hawks use transition to win at McMaster

Laurier 79, McMaster 64… Golden Hawks shot 56% in an explosive first-half, getting out in transition leading to easy finishes, first-big lay-ups and several open threes to lead by 19 and coasted to a win at McMaster this afternoon.  6’1″ freshman Ali Sow continues to show he is one of the top newcomers in the country with 24 points on 5-8 from downtown.  The Ottawa native Sow and 5’11” Tevaun Kokko combined to catalyze the game-deciding 18-2 run bridging the first and second quarters.  Kokko finished with 17 points for Laurier while 6’7″ Kemel Archer went 6-9 from the floor for 12 points as 11 of 12 Golden Hawks who dressed hit the score sheet.  6’2″ David McCulloch again was the major force offensively for the Marauders with a game-high 27 points but McMaster’s lack of depth was evident as Laurier repeatedly got out and ran for open looks.  6’3″ Miles Seward missed his third consecutive game for Mac with an ankle injury and newcomer 6’6″ Sasha Simic played just 1 minute according to the score sheet.

The rest of the action in OUA West goes tonight as Brock finishes the second of two games in Sault Ste. Marie at Algoma, Guelph hosts Windsor while Lakehead and Western meet for the second of their back-to-backs in London.
