AUS Seeding Scenarios: Setting up final night of regular season play

This afternoon’s Saint Mary’s 69-53 victory at Memorial to complete the two game sweep brings a bit more clarity to the AUS final tournament seedings as with Huskies seventh consecutive win, SMU is now tied for second place with Acadia each with 40 points.  However, Saint Mary’s swept Acadia in head-to-head which is the tiebreaker if Axemen and Huskies are tied.  So in the event of a St. FX victory tonight at UNB, Saint Mary’s would move all the way up to second place and grab a first round bye; Acadia would finish third (and get Memorial in the first round) and UNB drop to fourth for a rematch with St. FX.  If UNB wins tonight, the scenario is a bit more complicated since three teams will be tied with 40 points however UNB would have 16 wins, Acadia 15 wins and Saint Mary’s 14 wins.  And UNB would own the tiebreaker with both Acadia (split two games but point spread is +1 for V-Reds) and Saint Mary’s (Reds swept all four games from the Huskies this season).  So presumably UNB would get the bye and Saint Mary’s would finish third, setting up a rematch of this weekend’s games in St. John’s against Memorial.  X and Acadia would meet in the other first round game.  UPEI hosts Dalhousie in the other finale on the final night of the AUS regular season.
